Frants shows different types of amber and the difference between raw and polished amber pieces. You will learn how to distinguish between amber and stones. After participating in this course, you will no longer be in doubt about what is amber when you go amber hunting. Frants also explains where and when the chances are best to find amber.

Then we head to the beach, and all children are "lucky" and find a nice piece of amber. In Bødehuset, you grind and polish your amber, and Frants drills a hole in the amber so that it can become a fine amber necklace on a leather cord.

Frants himself has been an amber collector and has polished amber for most of his life.

You are welcome to bring an adult. The age limit is a maximum of 12 years – if there are slightly older siblings, they are also welcome to participate.

Amber polisher Frants Kristensen has brought amber and shows different colors of amber and the difference between raw and polished pieces. Frants tells how the amber was formed millions of years ago and how it ends up on our shores. And last but not least, he explains how you can find amber yourself. Which wind is the most favorable, and what should one be aware of concerning water levels and the different types of beaches.

It is also important to know how amber is deposited and what it washes up with.

We take a walk on the beach and try our luck. Maybe we'll drive to another beach if the chance of finding amber is better there.

Frants has over 60 years of experience as an amber collector and has written several books about amber.

The course is for both children and adults.

It is not entirely straightforward to use an amber flashlight, but it is easy to learn.

Frants Kristensen begins with some general knowledge about amber and how to find it. Which wind is the most favorable, and what should one consider regarding water levels and the different types of beaches? It is also important to know how amber is deposited and what it washes up with.

Frants explains the use of flashlights and what to pay extra attention to when walking in the dark. It is also important to have tips on how to orient oneself so one can find their way back.

Then we take a trip to the beach and use flashlights to find amber. Everyone receives small pieces of amber in different colors so that one knows how the amber looks when illuminated with the flashlight.

Please bring your own amber flashlight.

Note: If you don't have a car, carpooling can be arranged. Maximum 25 participants.
